BARNEYS NEW YORK
Locations: Scottsdale, Chicago, San Francisco & Boston
My Role: Interior Designer, Project Manager then Sr. Project Manager
Beginning with my first BNY project at their Boston store, my role evolved from interior design detailing and job captain roles culminating in a Sr. Project management role in the Gensler designed Scottsdale store, which included both interior & facade design & detailing. The Scottsdale store had its own character, including nods to the local environment like Sierra stone on the exterior with visible striations as a salute to the Southwest. Some original features of the store are the modern design of the monumental steel and glass sculptural staircase that connects the two floors and a glass box entryway on the facade, smoothly connecting outside to the inside and faceted ‘pop-out’ façade recalling the local terrain. These features were especially complex and satisfying to detail and coordinate into fruition. Though sadly, the brand is no more, their team’s steadfast pursuit of excellence and inherent humor has stayed with me to this day as a pivotal introduction to a brand’s total approach to design.
